Chase Cookson, a 40-year-old college professor from Gladstone, is finally celebrating a pain-free lifestyle after enduring agonizing heel pain for nearly 10 years.
Cookson developed recalcitrant plantar warts in the heel of his foot that had previously been surgically removed by a local podiatrist after a variety of other failed treatments. The surgery was a last resort, and unfortunately, it resulted in the spreading of the wart, which developed into a cluster.
“I had been in pain while walking before the wart but was in pretty bad pain after the surgery. The wart and then cluster was there for nearly a decade and affected my gait, which created pain in my back too,” said Cookson.
“It may have just seemed like a wart to everyone else, but to me, it was an obstacle between me and a life with less pain. I can't really describe how negatively this was affecting my life,” adds Cookson.
Recalcitrant Plantar Wart Treatment Plan in Lee's Summitt
“Recalcitrant plantar warts require a more aggressive and focused treatment approach,” adds Joel Foster, DPM, FACFAS.
Despite Chase’s history of failed treatment options with two other podiatric surgeons, Dr. Foster was optimistic about his case and recommended Swift Microwave Therapy. He has treated several patients utilizing this procedure, which has resulted in positive outcomes. Cookson received a series of Swift Microwave Therapy sessions, along with a compounded solution in between the sessions.
“Swift Microwave Therapy allows the body’s immune system to fight off the infection. Treatment includes a short burst of microwaves in the upper layers of the skin, which signals the immune system to begin the healing process and ultimately removing the wart,” adds Foster.
Benefits of Swift Microwave Therapy in Lee's Summitt
There are many significant benefits of Swift Microwave Therapy, as compared to conventional treatments, including:
- Less post-procedural pain: Any discomfort the patient might feel during the short therapy application will subside almost immediately thereafter, with no lingering effects.
- Convenience: Therapy sessions take only a few minutes, and a bandage isn’t needed. The sessions can be performed during a lunch break, and the patient can go right back to work or home
- Effective Results: Four out of five patients achieve success with this treatment, which is a far better success rate than conventional treatments.
- Safe Procedure: Microwave therapy is safe and non-invasive and there is minimal risk of infections or complications.
Celebrating a Pain-Free Lifestyle
After several Swift Microwave Therapy treatments, Cookson is now able to stand upright (with proper posture) without experiencing pain in his foot. For several years Cookson worried incessantly that the wart would spread to another part of his body. Now, he’s walking on the floor of his home barefoot for the first time in nearly a decade.
“Dr. Foster is a miracle worker. He's truly changed the quality of my life, and I don't know how to thank him and his team. I cried in his office when he told me that the wart was gone,” adds Cookson.
“Dr. Foster gave me hope at a time when I'd nearly given up.”
